Launching in March 2026, PS Australian Star will set a new standard for river cruising in Australia. As the first five-star wood-fired paddlesteamer in the country, it will offer a luxurious, immersive experience with private ensuites, state-of-the-art amenities, and three levels of opulence, blending old-world charm with modern sophistication.

What began in 1996 as a small-scale operation to showcase the beauty of the Murray River has grown into a premier paddlesteamer operation. Today, Murray River Paddlesteamers is proud to be the custodian of two historic vessels—PS Canberra and PS Emmylou—and will soon introduce PS Australian Star, further enhancing the river cruising experience in Australia.

In 2015, the business was purchased by brothers Craig and Rohan Burgess, along with skipper Neil Hutchinson, a passionate local with a deep love for the river. Under their care, the business has thrived, earning recognition with awards like the 2016 Regional Tourism Awards (Gold) and 2018 Victorian Tourism Awards (Silver).

The History of Echuca and the Murray River

Echuca, founded in 1850 by former convict Henry Hopwood, became Australia’s largest inland port.
