The city of Melbourne and its port have a shared history dating back before the discovery of gold in the 1850s.

In fact, Melbourne’s geography and economy have been influenced by decades of planning and investment in the port.

Managing and developing the port

Today, Ports Victoria is the custodian, developer and strategic manager of Station Pier along with safe navaigation of commercial ships sailing through Port Phillip Bay and emergency waterside response.

It ensures the port continues to deliver economic benefits to its customers and the wider community.

Upgrading facilities and access to Station Pier continues in order to meet the needs and expectations of international cruise lines and their passengers in this growing tourism market.

TT-Line’s Spirit of Tasmania passenger ferries and other visiting ships including Australian and international navy vessels use Station Pier.
