The pandemic is in the rear vision mirror!!

In 2019, just over 30 million passengers took a cruise, a record for the industry. It was predicted last year at Seatrade that by 2026 the number would be 34.5 million. 2023 is already looking to take 33 million passengers on a cruise, with new prediction for 2026 moving to 39 million. The rebound of cruise has been rapid and the future looks bright. Cruise is attracting a new wave of first-time cruisers. With 40 newbuilds entering the market in 2023, there are newer, smarter and technically improved ships sailing the globe.

It’s been a year since the announcement was made that the maritime ban on international cruise vessels visiting Australia would be lifted on 17 April 2022.
It feels like a distant memory given the whirlwind of activity for our industry since then. I would particularly like to acknowledge the outstanding contributions by our members around the cruise re-start which has been no easy feat given the changing health protocols and regulations.

Australian Cruise Association News - Edition 40
The last edition of our newsletter spoke of the 2019 season coming to an end and the enormous challenges that we endured with bush fires. Little did we know of the pandemic ahead and the soul-destroying halt to
the cruise industry. Two years on I am thrilled as the relatively new Chair of the Australian Cruise Association to be writing for this edition of our newsletter.
