Tall Ships Hobart 2013

The five-day Hobart Tall Ships program will include ship tours, river sailings, exhibitions, activities and entertainment, a Grand Parade, fine Tasmanian food and wines, a special schools program and much more.

This is the only capital city where you’ll find the docks right in the centre of the city, just footsteps away from major hotels, restaurants, cafes and taverns. Interstate visitors can combine a trip to see Tall Ships Hobart with a visit to the jaw-dropping new exhibition at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), the totally revamped Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery or the lovely Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, all within easy reach.

Friday 20 September
Tall Ships arrive in the Derwent followed by berthing operations. Officers and crew of the visiting ships are invited to a formal reception at Government House. Fireworks display this evening over the water. Public viewing of the vessels and displays on the Hobart waterfront.

Saturday 21 September
Public open ships at Macquarie Wharf, Elizabeth Street Pier, Franklin Wharf and Princes Wharf. Maritime displays in Princes Wharf No.1 and entertainment throughout the day on Parliament House Lawns. Ships visiting hours 10:00am – 8:00pm. Opening hours for Princes Wharf No.1 the same. Some ships will offer ticketed sailings.

Sunday 22 September
Parade of ship’s companies and bands from Hunter Street to St David’s Park. Entertainment by visiting ship’s bands and the Tasmanian Navy Band. Public open ships at Macquarie Wharf, Elizabeth Street Pier, Franklin Wharf and Princes Wharf. Maritime displays, food and beverage stalls in Princes Wharf No.1 from 10:00am – 8:00pm. Ticketed sailings on selected ships.

Monday 23 September
Public open ships at Macquarie Wharf, Elizabeth Street Pier, Franklin Wharf and Princes Wharf Maritime displays and demonstrations at Princes Wharf. Schools program brings Tasmanian classes to the ships for tours at Macquarie Wharf, Elizabeth Street Pier and Princes Wharf. Ticketed sailings on selected ships.

Tuesday 24 September – Schools Day
Public open ships at Macquarie Wharf, Elizabeth Street Pier, Franklin Wharf and Princes Wharf Maritime displays and demonstrations at Princes Wharf. Schools program brings Tasmanian classes to the ships for tours at Macquarie Wharf and Princes Wharf.

Wednesday 25 September – Departure Day
Media day – outside broadcast from the Waterside Pavilion, sponsored free breakfast for commuters and sailors departing for Sydney.
